Girlguiding UK launches Brownie Rose to celebrate 90th Anniversary
of Brownies
The group, originally called Rosebuds, has remained the most popular youth group for girls, aged 7 - 10 years. When they were founded in 1914 there were approximately 2,450 across the UK, today there are over 260,000.

The Brownie Rose is a yellow 'Floribunda' and has been grown by specialists Harkness Roses. The roses will be launched at the Harkness Roses stall at the Chelsea Flower Show in May. The Brownie rose will retail at £7.95 per plant and will be available through both Harkness and Girlguiding UK Trading Services. For every plant sold, a percentage of the gross sale will be donated back to Girlguiding UK.

Brownies were founded by Lord Robert Baden-Powell after the younger sisters of the Guides and Scouts showed an interest in joining the Guide Association. They were originally called Rosebuds and wore a dark blue uniform.
